PAHI GOLDFIELD- OFFICIAL REPORT.
The following report has been handed to us for publication : — : Orepuki Police Station, j 22nd October, 1866. i Sergeant Morton reports that the population on the Orepuki diggings is about 179 miners, who are all making good wages, that is — from £4 to £12 per man per week. The yield of gold weekly is about 250 ounces ; there has been three prospecting claims granted during the week by the Warden. One claim was granted to Mr Potts and party in a gully about three miles from the township, and the prospect is half a grain to the shovel; the stripping is about one foot, and the wash is about one foot, and there is a good supply of water. There was also a prospecting claim granted to Mr Smith, and Kirton and party, in a gully situated about fire miles from the township ; the prospect which they got is upwards "of half a grain of gold to the shovel, which is coarse and nuggety; there is about two feet of stripping, and about two feet of washdirt. Creaey, Williams, and party has also applied for a prospecting claim in a new gnlly about five miles from the township. E. Mobtof, Sergeant. T. K. Weldon, Esq., Commissioner of Police, Invercargill.
