The Southland Times. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 1866.
Owing to circumstances over which we had no control, we this morning are unable to issue our usual paper. It will, however, afgpear on Thursday and Friday full size. - A meeting of the Land Board, was held on Tuesday, the 4th September, when the following land was sold, viz.. — 85 acres Waiau district, Cuthbertson ; 50 acres, Oreti district, Campbell ; 20 acres, Oreti district, Henchle. In our yesterday's issue we stated that an extensive fire had occurred at Stewarts Island, We now give a few items of intelligence, since received Oar correspondent writes : — " The loss is estimated at £3000. It is supposed to have originated from some wood that had been stacked to near the furnace. I have not ascertained if the property was insured or not." The following is the state of H.M. &aol, for the week ending Tuesday, the 4th instant. Sentenced to penal servitude, 6 males ; sentenced to hard labor, 5 males and 1 female. Lunatics, 5 males and 1 female. Debtors, 1 male. Total, 17 males and 2 females. Received during the week, I male. Discharged during the week, 3 males. Decrease for the week, 2 males.
