LEILA. Leila bath a gentle swain, Pleasant 'tis to see them twain, When their noonday work is done, Rambling free at set of sun : Oh, how happy, happy she, Wandering by the river Lee ! How he gazeii in her faco, Telling there each budding grace : Blushes, like the sunset giow ; Smiles, as when the spring-lowers flow All that's sweet in her ye see, ■ Wandering by the quiet Lee. Let us trace each beauty there, . Fair as good, and good as fair : Let us drink, with our glad eyes, All her charms, that all surprise : Who so sweet' and fair as she On the banks of murmuring Lee ! Leila hath a bright blue eye — How it sparkleth when he's nigh ! And her wavy locks are seen, Gleaming with a golden sheen, As she laugheth in hQ glee, Wandering by the river Lee. Leila hath a neck like swan, And her brow to look upon, Ye would think a race of kings Had been sires to her that sings, Thrilling with her melody, Bush and brake by gurgling Lee. Leila hath a vermeil cheek, And her rosy lips ye seek, Childlike rendereth. she the bliss, To imprint a chaste, sweet kiss ; Purely, dovelike, sporteth she On the banks of winding Lee ! Leila bath a gentle heart ; Oh that ever Cupid's dart Should have pierced her gentle soul ! Hither, swain, ana made it whole : Jhen how happy, happy she, Wandering on i he banks of Lee ! M.
