RESERVE AT LONG-WOOD.

Mr CUTHBERTSON moved "that the Council confirm a reserve, made by. his Honor the Superintendent, in the district of Longwood, referred to in his Honor's address." He explained that the land iv question was ali bush, and believed to be auriferous- he did not wish to create false expectation by speaking too favorably about the diggings in tiie vicinity, but it \va3 clear that they were hopeful, and the land- should be reserved for mining purposes. Mr. WOOD seconded the motion, which was carried. THE "SOUTHLAND" STEAM-TUG. Mr CLERK asked the Government " what it intends doing with the steamer ' Southland,' and to lay on the table the return or receipts of said steamer and expenditure since she has been worked." The PROVINCIAL TREASURER laid the returns asked for upon the table, and stated that no determination had been come to as to what was to be done with the Lo^t in future. If sold, the General Government would take the money. Again, that Government insisted upon' it being insured for £8000, which could not fes ootamed here. They hacl sent to England to eifect one, but could not, except at a very high rate. These and other circumstances had prevented th ;m from taking the offer to lease which hii been made.
