POLICE NOTIFICATIONS.

The following appeared in the Police Gazette of 9th April:— A -warrant has been issued by the Riverton Bench for the arrest of Archibald M'Donald, who stands charged with having, on the 16th inst., grievously assaulted one John Russell. He is about 29 years, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, black hah 1 , whiskers and moustache, a shipwright, and native of Scotland, is very noisy and quarrelsome when drinking, is supposed to be at Switzer's diggings with a cousin named M' Arthur. Stolen sometime between the evening of the 17th and morning of the 21st February, 1866, from the • schooner- Danzig, at the Inyercargill Jetty, ten double Sheaved Blocks (new), ten inches long, strapped and painted white, the property of Auguste Henri Puectslkow. Stolen sometime during the night of the 28th or morning of the 29th March, from the person of John Donaldson, while sleeping in the Garrick Club Hotel, one £10-note on the Union Bank of Australia. Cannot be identified. An inquest was held on the 20th instant, at the Custom House, Riverton, upon the body of Adam .Rogers, who was accidentally drowned^ when going up Jacob's Biver in a boat on the night of the 10th inst. verdict accordingly — Drowned. An inquest was held* on the 26th March, 1866, at the Plough Inn, Harrisville, upon the body of Henry Devereux, aged two years and six months. Verdict drowned by accidentally falling into a well at Gladstone. Duncan M'Kenzie, charged with threatening 0} do bodily harm to his wife, arrested by SergeantMajor Chapman, has been bound over to keep the peace for twelve months. San Antonio, charged with wilful disobedience of lawful commands on board the ship Rangitoto, has been arrested by Sergeant Shury, and discharged, having promised to return to his duty. Frederick Stanley, arrested by Sergeant Shury, charged with stealing a £5 note at Birchwood, has been sentenced to sis months' imprisonment with hard labor. James Sutherland, Alfred Ferguson, Neil M-Donald, and James Malevlin, arrested by Sergeant-Major Chapman for deserting from the ship Maria, at the Bluff Harbor, and sentenced to 'eight weeks' imprisonment each, with hard labor. Richard Boyter, charged with stealing a pick at the Paihi, arrested by Sergeant-Major Chapman, and sentenced to twelve day's imprisonment with, hard labor. NeiL Benson, Robert Todd, and Antoni Jansen, arrested by mounted Constable Hawkshaw on a chargo of deserting from the British ship Maria, has been sentenced to eight weeks' hard labor. . Robert Gray, arrested by Sergeant O'Keefe, on a charge of larceny from a dwelling, has been Sentenced to one month's hard labor. Joseph Storey, arrested by Sergeant O'Keefe, on a charge of keeping a disorderly house, has been severely cautioned and discharged. Maggie Hill and Annie Malone, arrested by Sergeant O'Keefe under the Vagrant. Ordinance, has been cautioned and discharged. Charles Burns, John Thompson, Kobert Tilley, Thomas Wilshire, William Johnston, Donald Sutherland, and James Williams, arrested by Sergeant O'Keefe under the Vagrant Ordinance, has been cautioned and discharged. William Petrie, arrested by Constable Wilson, on a charge of larceny, has been sentenced to three months' imprisonment, with hard labor. George Brown, arrested by Sergeant Morton, on a charge of cattle stealing, and remanded, has been discharged since. Sarah Cochrane, Margaret Cochrane, and Sarah Cochrane, jun., arrested by Sergeant O'Keefe, on a charge of keeping a disorderly house, has been respectively sentenced to three months, two months, and six weeks' hard labor. Annie Malone, arrested by Sergeant O'Keefe, undar the Vagrant Ordinance, has been sentenced to fourteen days' hard labor. Catherine Stacey, arrested by Sergeant O'Keefe, under .^he Vagrant Ordinance, has been sentenced to seveiidays' hard labor. Mary Stewart, arrested by Sergeant O'Keefe, on a charge of keeping a disorderly house, has been cautioned and discharged. William Bryan, charged on warrant with deserting from the brig Amherst, has been arrested by Sergeant Shury, and sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment, with hard labor. Henry Clinton, charged with insubordination on board the ship Maria, has been arrested by Sergeant Shury and discharged. « About 10th March, 1866, the horse described as under, the property of Andrew Davies, of Green Point, near Campbelltown, broke from its fastenings, at the Eagle Hotel, and has not since been recovered : — Bay mare, about 14£ hand 6 high, black points, TO near shoulder, white spot on near shoulder from an old wound, white spot under saddle, took saddle and bridle with her. The owner believes the mare has been taken away, as he cannot find her, and she never strays far from home. See Southland Police Gazette, 12th Feb., 1866. The Oval Brooch reported stolen from Mrs E. Hogue's, Tay-street, is recovered, having been found in the garden at the back of the house. Found, on the 19th March, 1866, at Campbelltown, by Daniel M'Quarrie, and now lying at the

Campbelltown Police Station, a tin ease, con' taming an Admiralty certificate of discharge anda register ticket, bearing the name ef John Knightley, rating-stoker. Believed to have been lost by one of the- stokers belonging to the Albion steamer, which was at the Bluff on the abovementioned date. ; List of prisoners discharged from H. M. Gaol, Invercargill, since the publication of last list: — *• Peter Dolstrom, tried at Invercargill 13th January, 1866, for desertion from the Brig Ella Gladstone. Sentence, 8 weeks' hard labor. A Swede, a seaman, born 1842, 5. feet 9 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, anchor and star tatooed on left hand. Eobert Grey, tried at Invercargill, 13th February, 1866, for larceny. Sentence, one month's hard labor. A Scotchman, a laborer, born 1837, 5 feet 8 inchas high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, j)lue eyes, scar on left leg, scar on right cheek. * Sarah Cochrane, junior, tried at Invercargill, 9th February, 1866, for being the occupier of a disorderly house. Sentence, Bix weeks' hard labor. A native of Tasmania, a laborer, born 1851, 5 feet 1 inch high, slight build, fresh complexion, dark hair and hazel eyes. John Campbell, tried at Invercargill, 3rd May. 1865, for obtaining money by false pretences. Sentence, twelve months' hard labor. A Scotchman, a laborer, born 1838, 5 fet 6£ inches high, slight build, fair complexion, dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, long thin neck, long .narrow face, bridge; of nose been broken, scar on left shin. Richard Roberts, tried at Invarcargill, 3rd May, 1865, for stealing from the person. Sentence, twelve months' hard labor. An Englishman, a cooper, born 1832, 5 feet 9| inches high, slight build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar on left shin, marks of sores on left leg, cut on right side of upper lip, slight cast in left eye, burn mark on right arm, deaf. Catherino Stacey, tried at Invercargill, 9fch February, 1866, for breach of Vagrant Ordinance. Sentence, 7 days' hard labor. A native of Belgium, a laborer, born 1832, 5 fest 3£ inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, mark, on right cheek, and mark on 'left cheek. Annie Malone, tried at Invercargill, 9th Feb., 1866, for breach of the Vagrant Ordinance. Sentence, 14 days' hard labor. A native of Tasmania, ailaborer, born 1838, 5 feet 3£ inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, hair black, turning grey, dark grey eyes, has been in Dunedin Gaol for occupying a disorderly house. Mary Horton tried at Invercargill, 29th January, 1886, as being an habitual drunkard. Sentence, one month's hard labor. A native of Scotland, a dressmaker, 4 feet llf inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, and hazel eyes. Joshiah Perrin, tried at Invercargill, 7th December, 1865, for embezzelement Sentence, ' three months' hard labor. An Englishman, a warehouseman, born 1830, sft. 8£ inches high, stout build, fresh complezion, fair hair, hazel eyes, cut across the knuckles of the right hand.
