RESIDENT MAGISTEATE'S COURT.
(Before H. M'Culloeh, Esq., K.M.) WEDNESDAY, 4th APEIL. Allan M'Kay was sentenced to 24 hours' imprisonment, with hard labor, for begging. Alexander Sinclair was charged, on the information of Bridget Dalton, with assaulting her. From the evidence of the complainant, who, keeps a, store in Deveron-street, it appeared that on the 2nd imst., the defendent went into complainant's shop, and asked for a box of sardines, for which he wanted credit. Complainant, however, declined to give credit, whereupon defenlant became abusive, and complainant requested him to leave her shop. Defendant refusing to leave, the complainant pushed him out side the door, and then defendant struck her on the forehead. Elizabeth Cockroft corroborated complainant's evidence. The defendant said that complainant threw a 4-lb. weight at him before he struck her. The Magistrate said the offence had been proved, and fined the defendant 20s, and costs 5s 6d. «
