CANTERBURY.
The usual monthly mcci ing of the Chamber oi Commerce was held yesteiv.ay in the rooms, Highstreet. There were present — Messrs C. W. Turner (Chairman), Symington, Stewart, Buckley, Laurie, Gould, Peacock, Fletcher, Matson, and Richardson. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Chairman stated that the only business before the Chamber was a motion by Mr. J. D. Macpherson with reference to allowances for breakage on bottled beer, &c. Mr. Macpherson was unavoidably absent, and it was therefore necessary to withdraw the motion. After seveeai accounts had been ordered to be paid, the meeting dispersed. WESILAND. We have received copies of Westland papers to the 30th uit. The W. C. Times of that date says : — During the past week very little business has been doing, chiefly owing to the Christmas holidays. No transactions of any amount have taken place. Prices maintain our last quotations with very little alteration.
