ROUTE FROM VICTORIA TO THE LAKE GOLDFIELDS.
The shortest route is vi/L Invercargill, which is as least [one .day nearer Victoria than Dunedin. The, steamers Qothenbwrg, Aldinga, and AlJvambra call regularly at the Bluff, which it distant from ioion 20 miles. From Invercargill the North Mood is' followed, beginning at JOeo' street. About four and a half miles from town the road turns to the left, and from, thence to the foot of the Lake the main line of road should be kept. By this route the distance is only 92 miles from Invercargill, iJie road per' feclly level, and there are accommodation house, ' all the way. From JDunedin vi& Kingston, (foot of the Lake), the distance &.220 miles; vi& the Dnuslan,. 150 miles. This latter road is mountainous to a degree.
