INVERCARGILL PRICES CURRENT.
We take, the following from the Argus of the 10th inst. :— There was no improvement whatever observable in the import market to-day. The reports in circulation with reference to, the Ministerial tariff propositions, though creating some little speculative feeling,, have not led to business to any extent. Flour and wheat have been : in somewhat active demand, at prices ranging from. £21 to £21 10s. for Havb's brand, and £20 10s. to £31. for other superior brands. New wheat is much wanted. The stocks of old wheat are being rapidly cleaved , out. ' 'Sales took place to-day at Bs. 6d.-, and the same price was refused by other holders. 3,000 bushels of Chilian changed hands afc 6s. 9d. By auction, considerable sales of Chilian flour and wheat have been effected ; but US the lots wqre xriore'or less in an unsound condition, the prices obtained afford no guidance as to the mai'ket value of sound weH-conditioned parcels. Our .Tasmanian dates are to the Bth instant, The Examiner supplies the -following market report: — : . " Business;; continues very. , quiet, at unaltered quotations, viz. :— Flour,; colonial, £24 ;{Galifornian, £23. ; Oats, 2s. 9d.; to 3s. for-prime samples. Potatoes, £5 55.. ; bags in.. .^Trussed hay,; £4.t0 £4 ss: : Fruit^-JGroo3eberries.;3s. to4s.per bushel. Cherries are all but impossible of sale for shipment, as Victoria, wil be able to? supply-herself. :' "We understand that there will be a very large ■quantity of fruit for expoi'fc hence— especially of the smaller kinds, such as r currants," raspberries, 7'< &c, notwitlistandiug tbe damage done by the late frosts, "wnieh seem to have been ve-y- partial in their effects. The Chittianjfiour ;ofl'et:ed on Saturday by My. Weedon was '"again" put up to-day, with the same successj-f-ndt a), bid being offered. .! Tbis shows the uselessness of sending Jiere an i inferior article ia bad condition, for really good fiour readily commands;£23 to £24." There was a small sale of colonial wheat at 95,, ( but. thi3 sale, was an extreme one,. the ruling figure being; Bs. 9d. ,
