THE ELECTIONS.
Since our last issue, very little has transpired regarding the ensuing elections for the Provincial Council. On Tuesday evening, Mr. C. E. Button addressed, for the second time, the electors of Invercargill, for which place he is one of the candidates in the field. Last evening, Mr. C. S. Button addressed his second meeting of the electors of the Waihopai District. The meeting took place in the Golden Fleece Hotel. Both meetings passed off very much as on the first occasion of these candidates propounding their views on the various matters uppermost in the public mind. We hear that a requisition has been presented to Mr. Jabez Hay, praying that he will allow himself to become a candidate for the Waihopai District, and that he has acquiesced in the wish of his requisitionists. So far as we are aware, no public announcement of this intention has yet been made. Mr. T. L. Bright has, we understand, received a requisition signed by fortythree of the electors of the Town of Invercargill, asking him to meet the constituency. It would appear now that Mr. J. C. Henderson is not to be permitted to be returned for Campbelltown without opposition, as a requisition is being got up in favor of Mr. M'Nab, the present member for that district. For the representation of the district of Riverton, the names of Messrs. W. H. Nurse and Crerar are mentioned. Mr. Nurse was one of the late members of Council. . . ', : Mr. Cuthbertson's name is mentioned in connection with . the Waiau electoral ' district, and Mr. Scott for the Aparima ; while Mr. E. Gillow.is .named i or, the Longwopd district, and ,Mr. ; Cowan (one of the -present- members) is mentioned-aa-likely to be returned for thVOreti.
