SYDNEY

The following report is from the Herald of 17th instant. "Flour.- I—There1 — There has been great excitement in the flour market during the week, and prices ■ are again very firm, and have an upward tendency. The Dashing" Wave "arrived from San Francisco, and, contrary- to expectation, brought a cargo of lumber instead -of bfeadstuffs. This induced holders at once to ask £25-per ton for first brands of Adelaide, and- : Wall sales have been made during the week at that price. The Isle of France arrived on Tuesday, from California, with a cargo of breadstuffs, but as the whole of the wheat was imported on the account- of two of our millers, it had no effect on prices. In the neighbouring colonies flour has also' advanced in price ; and as the bulk of our stocks are in a few hands, prices are almost at their mercy, unless we have some unexpected arrivals from Valparaiso and California, or English shipments are continued. The millers have advanced their quotations £1 per ton. They now quote fine flour at £25 per ton, and seconds at £23 per ton. Adelaide flour is quoted by the agents at from £23 10s. to £25, the latter figure- being asked for first brands; Cali&rnian, £24t per ton ; Chili, £23 per ton. Wheat is also much firmer, and there are now buyers of Adelaide at 10s. 6d. per bushel."
