WASTE LAND BOARD.
(to the editob of the southlakd times; Sib, — Happening to attend a meeting of the Waste Land Board the other day, ifc appeared to me a strange circumstance that the Superintendent of the ProTince should sit as a member of the Board. Can it be wondered at if people ■will have the opinion that the Board might be made a nice political machine for occasions like the present ? . , • ■ I hesitate not in saying that it is~*an un-British sight to- sec an individual, at once the present Superintendent and an aspirant again for. the same office, occupying a position of this nature— where necessarily his influence must be great- — and which could be-used -with fearful results to Ids -unfortunate opponents Whethe* the Press, like many others, ia waiting to worship the "rising sun," I cannot tell, but. certain it is there are deep-seated, and crying public abuses in the Province, Hidden - from the mere passer-by, which ,the above has at least the appearance of, and which will render the Province unwholesome until, utterly eradicated. The Press, I fear, has but iitherto touched these with gloved fingers.— l &in,&c., V. , ' • T.-.r ;;;; V,o."' ; observer. 1 ' ■
