The Lyttelton Times of the Ist., says : — " A meeting of consignees per barque Countess of ScaSeld was held yesterday afternoon at the rooms of the Chamber of Commerce. About twenty gentlemen vreve present, with Captain Danvers, the master of the vessel, at whose invitation the meeting, was called. Mr Symington wa3 m the chair. Mr. Buckley recounted the facts of the case, which were that when within a few weuks' sail of Tasmania, the vessel encountered heavy weather and was swept by a sea which; carried off nine of tire crew, and damaged the ship considerably. The vesssl was taken into Hobart Town, where the captain, who was also sole owner, was advised by Lloyd's agents- to repair the ship, which he did, at a cost of £2,700, raising the money on bottomry at 15 per cent., and the Bank of 2*ew Zealand here was in. possession: of the bond 1 . The captain was without funds, The freight due was about £900, which though hypothecated, would be available for the bond. Meantime the consignees could not touch their goods, and the question was what should be done. The vessel was- insured against all risfe for £3,700, but she could not be sold. There was bo-Vice-Admiralty- Court in the Province. He suggested that the consignees should appoint trustees and take, up the- bond by payment of at percentage on the cargo. Some objection was taken to the proposal, and an adjournment was suggested. Finally, a committee of seven gentlemen was appointed to- consider and report upon the subject by Friday next (to-morrow) /'
