WELLINGTON.
The Independent, of 13th inst., says : — "General business has not improved since our last summary so much as we anticipated, partly owing to the wet weather, and greatly to the excessive quantity of all classes of merchantable commodities pouring in upon us &om the over-stocked market s of Melbourne and Sydney, Lyttelton, and Otago. Since the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company have added so largely to their fleet of steamers, and opened up regular communication with the Southern Provinces — we are in danger of having our markets glutted any moment. Stocks now on hand are excessive, and tend materially to keep prices low. The advance on the price of wool in the London market will prove of great benefit to this Province, that article being our principle export.
