(TO T833 EDITOB OE THB SOUTHLAND TIME 3.) g IK) — "Would you have the kindness to inform me whether our bright Educational Committee could be made to pay for the loss of time I and others liave sustained by being summoned to 6tato our objections against then* monstrous assessment ? The reason stated for not hearing the cases Avas, that, according to the Ordinance, ten days' notice in a local paper ought to be given, instead of five. Ido not see why, in spite of this discovery, the parties attending to-day could nofc have had their casos settled ; why the peoplo called together by notice from Mr. Geisow, the treasurer, should be made to suffer — should be humbugged in this manner by our Educated (?) Committee, consisting of seven members, none of whom, it is evident, are acquainted with the contents of the Ordinance, according to which thoy are expected to ride. The annoyance of this proceeding is most intensely aggravated by the consideration of their assessment being tho vory climax of absurdity. — I remain, &c, ANTI-HUMBUG. August 15th, 1364.
