DUNEDIN COMMERCIAL.

The Utago Daily Times, ot ath just., reports of previous day's business as follows : — " Business continues very quiet in the private market, in fact sales by auction have now rendered salea by private contract almost impossible. At the rooms of one of our auctioneering firms to-day a parcel of goods, damaged by sea water, was offered, and'tho whole sold at prices which was i considered high, looking to the condition of the goods. "At the same auction-room, a parcel of tea, consisting of 154 half-chests, sold a few days ago at auction, at Is. 3£d., was to-day re-sold on account of former purchaser, at ll^d! in bond, a price far under its real value ; but the circumstances of the sale seemed to operate against it in the minds of buyers, hence the low price realised ; privately, a parcel of good medium tea was to-day placed at 2s. Id. [ " Florß. — The advices just received from Auckland intimating a sudden advance to £30 per ton, and there sale on the spot of a parcel of 200 tons, which was in the coarse of shipment to this market, have had the" effect of rendering holders less anxious to sell, and the position of the market now is — sellers at £28, for Adelaide, with no buyers. Nothing has yet been done with the two Chilian cargoes, and so long as they continue to hang over the market, in their present nondescript form, there scema to be very little prospect of our seeing any life in the article. — «p
