Any one not intimatoly acquainted with . tkis port, would, on reading youv contemporary'^ paragraph, naturally conolude thai a vessel amy« ulg here with any unusual cargo, would bo entirely dependent on the probability of another vessel being here at the same time, and probably liable to great detention if such were not the case ; I whereas it is well knows that there are men I amongst us who have been accustomed, during the greater part of their lives, to discharging vesi sels with all sorts of cargoes, in various parts of the world. Had the captain of the Charlotte Jane to land these heavy packages at his own expense, I would not complain of his having asked assistance from another vessel ; but as I understand the Q-overnment have to remove all packages exceeding two tons from the ship's hold, I certainly am of opinion that the work should have been gone about in the most economical manner, more especially under existing circumstances. For your information, I may mention that there have been fully forty men employed (overlooked by at least twelve overseers), getting out these engines. I can can confidently assert that, with the same appliances, the work could have been done by twelve men, with one overseer. I am, Sir, T. N. F. Bluff Harbor, 3rd August, 1864
