The second of the course of winter evening lectures will be delivered this evening, in the Scotch Church, Tay -street, by the Rev. C. Searle. Subject — " A Plea, for Rest," addressed to employers and employed. We regret to announce that a melancholy case of suspected suicide occurred ,at. the residence of Mr. Hormann, farmer, Waikivi Bush, early yesterday morning. At half- past seven o'clock, on Mr. Hormann going to the well which is adjacent to his house, he was surprised to find his servant girl lying with her head in the water. The well is only eighteen inches deep, and the first impression such a circumstance conveys is, that the unfortunate woman had sought her death by a most determined act of suicide. We refrain, however, from making further remarks at present, as the inquest will bo . held on the body of the deceased to-day. | When Mr. Hormann found the body he discovered that. life., .was quite extinct, although the body itself was not rigid. All .ordinary means were resorted to to restore animation, but without "effect. The inquest will be held at Mr. Hormann's residence, '.at one o'clock to-day. Amongst .the passengers to Melbourne by the Groat Britain, is Mr. John Roberts, the champion billiard player., .*'....'.' '
