MELBOURNE COMMERCIAL.
We are iu possession of files to the 21st instant, per the s.s. Albion. The Argus of that date reports thus of tho previous day's markets : — Unpleasant weather, rain, and sloppy streets, assisted to mate business unusually dull to-day. Some of the coasting steamers were unable, in consequence of the floods, to make their way down the river, and thus added their quota to the ' general dulness. Holders of Eastern produce are generally very firm in their demands, apd an ; improvement in prices is looked for. There was j some inquiry for ration sugar. Yellow crystals, of medium quality, for transliipment, changed hands at rates equal to an advance of 20s. per 1 ton, a price conceded in consequence of the late 1 intelligence from the Mauritius. The Horn* mar- ' ket -was very much unsettled by the intelligence from Valparaiso, received by way of "Auckland and Sydney. Some lots of good Adelaide silk- ' dressed -were disposed of at £27, and Tasmanian . at £25 10s. Large holders, however, are not dis- : posed to accept lower rates than were current ! yesterday morning, awaiting - further news. | Holders of wheat are very firm. The telegraph f informs us that the markets, both at Sydney and L Adelaide, have been affected. In the former the ' fall is stated to be equal to 40s. per ton. In all ' probability flour has now seen its highest. A sale ' of spirits of various kinds was tried at the rooms 1 of Messrs. Greig and Murray, but no disposition 1 to buy was shown, and the greater number of the lots were passed in.
