LONDON WOOL REPORT.
Ariui, 23, 1864. Since our last report thoro has been considerable | demand for Port Phillip, and several large parco 1 j
'have been sold by importers of jrccent arrivals at prices fully equal to those current in 'March. Tlie, non-arrival of many of*, the Melbourne ships in time fdi\the last series,- in part accounts for this demand, stocks 'then not"* being sufficient for actual requirements.* There has likewise been a good trade, and the Bradford and continental spinners havo been well employed. ■; There is a general conviction that prices will be fully maintained for aU descriptions at the ensuing sales announced to commence on the sth May ; but it can scarcely be expected that Port Phillip will maintain the high rates recently current, when so large a quantity of short descriptions will be offered, tho arrivals thence already exceeding 40,000 bales. It must be borne in mind that the Money Market is more stringent, and should the present rate be maintained or advanced, it will cause extreme caution on the part of operators. .' The arrivals to date are — Australian, 12,151 bales ; Port Phillip, 40,890 bales ; Van Dieman's Land, 1,588 bales ; Adelaide, 11,015 bales ; Swan River, 2,079 bales ; New Zealand, 3,203 bales; Cape, 11.G08 bales ; total, 82,534 bales.— -Howie Netos.
