Miscellaneous. PROVINCE OF SOUTHLAND &2500 REWARD. TTOR THE DISCOVERY OF A PAYABLE J? GOLDFIELD. Fifteen hundred pounds (£1500) of which will be guaranteed by the Southland Prospecting Association, -and ono thousand pounds (£1000) by the Southland Government, in accordance with a notice in thn Government Gazette — to the following effect, viz., " That a Reward of £1000 will be paid to any party who .hall discover a Payable Goldfield within twelve months from the dale heroof, conditionally on the discoverer or discoverers giving satisfactory proof to the Government that 16,000o'__ of gold, the bona fide produce of that particular Field, being within the Province of Southland shall have been realised and brought to Invercargill within 12 months from the date of the discovery, and duly reported to His Honor the Superintendent." The Southland Prospecting Association will pay their subsidy of £1500, in virtue of the followin resolution passed at a Public Meeting at Inver cargill, November 11th, 1563, viz.— "That the said Reward of £1500 will be paid to such person or persons who may be declared entitled to the Government Rewnrd of £1000. Intending Prospectors are al«o notified of the following resolution passed at the same Meeting, viz.—" Thnt in tho event of a payable Goldfield being discovered in the Olngo Province, and such Goldfield being shown to be to the ndvantage of Southland, that the Commiitec shall have power to give a proportionate reward to the discoverer, and such Money to bo raised as the Committee may deem most advisable. RULES AND REGULATIONS. j 1. No entry will be received for any of the races I exeppt upon this condition — that all disputes, claims, and objections arising out of the racing, shall be decided by the Stewards, or a majority of them, whose decisions upon all points connected ; with the carrying out of tbe above programme j shnll be final. 2. No person will bo allowed to enter or run a horse unless the latter be qualified as the bona fide property of a subscriber of threo soys to tho Race Fund, except hack races. 3. All entries to be sealed and addressed to the Stewards, entrance money enclosed, with the name, a"-c, and pedigree of the horse, name of the owner, and colors of the riders. No jockey allowed to ride except in the colors entered. 4. Entries must be made at the Union Hotel, Tay street, on the evening of Wednesday, 9th February, at 8 o'clock. 5. Marcs and geldings allowed 31b in all weight for age races. (5. Three horses to enter for each race, or no public money will be added. 7. In ease of bad weather, the Stewards reserve to themselves the right of postponing the races from time to time, as may appear advisable. 8. All dogs found on tho course will be destroyed by strychnine or otherwise, without respect of ownership. 0. The races will begin punctually each day at half-past one o'clock. ALEXANDER SAVERS, Hon.
