Aspinall, one of the men who were drowned on Monday last in this harbor, ha« not been found. Two boats; were out during the" greater part of Thursday; searching the shore and different'arms of thej bay. One was manned by Messrs Fordham, , Hayman, and Iteed, the other by ; Me6srsj Horrobin, Alder, and Tanner. They took a j circuit of- fifteen miles from ; east to north.! Two, from each boat landed and searched thej beach. Horrobin picked up the rudder be-] longing to the capsized boat, but nothing; could be seen of the body. Much credit is due to Messrs Fordham and Messrs Horrobin and Co. — the former more especially — for the manner they put off to the rescue and succeeded in picking up the body of Captain Hall, and the latter for devoting a day for the purpose of trying to recover the body of Aspmall, I fear the body must have been carried out to sea by the ebb-tide, although to-morrow, if the weather continues fair, we intend making up a laige party for the purpose of further searching before finally giving it up. I only trust we may succeed. > Our subscription lists for the widows and family are progressing very well. We have j already in hand something over LIOO, exclusive of others who have not yet paid un. On Monday a committee will be formed for the purpose of taking into consideration the apportioning of the money for the widows and children, and to learn from them what they intend doing. I .believe Mrs Hall wishes to remain here. Should such be the case, I trust the gentlemen who are taking so active a part in her behalf will provide her with a freehold and start her in some light business. As to Mrs Aspinall, I have not heard what are her views. I trust you may have been successful in gathering something for them. Messrs McKenzie and Co. are, busy in preparing the piles for the wharf. They have nearly got .their monkey completed for driving, and everything is progressing for the commencement, under the able management of Mr Keen. Messrs Derndstein and Ott are making great progress with metalling our main street, and much credit is due to them for the manner in which they are carrying on their work. The harbor has a sumed quite a lively appearance, — what with ships, steamers, and lighters. The Helenslee and Haiwood are busy discharging their cargoes, having got clear of their passengers. The Harvvcod has brought out the wire, tools, &c , for the telegraph between this port and Invercargill. It will be landed on Monday, when I expect no time will be lost on the part of the contractors. Weather fine, with occasional showers. The finding of the jury at the inquest on the body of Captain YY\ D. Hall, was "Accidentally drowned by the capsizing of the boat."
