INVERCARGILL HORSE AND CATTLE MARKET.
Carey and Gilles report — A slight decline in the value of horses during the week, in consequence of thofall in the rates of cartage to the Lake diggings. On Saturday, the 6th, our saloi consisted ot several lots of carriers' teams, &C, which found ready purchasers at from L4l to LB2 fur draughts, an.l L 26 to L 35 for saddle backs. On Wednesday, the lOt.h, we offered the lot es India, Irom Hobart Town, the weather being very unfnvoiable, this stock of a light description, and not in the best condition, biddings were not brisk, tho prices realised being from L 35 to LOS. A number of hacks at L2O up to L 34. Some bullock drays brought L 35. We quote the following as our market rales :— First class heavy draught horses, L 95 to L 110; second do. do., L6O to LBO , i bird do. do., L4O to 1. 50. Working Bullocks— First class teams in good condition "are eagerly sought after (Provincial cattle preferred). Our sales consisted of the shipment ex Picanl, from Hobart Town, which though very light nnd iv low condition, realised from L6O to LOS per pair. Fat Cuttle — Are worth from 60s to 70s per 100 lbs. Store Cattle— Will find ready purchasers at from LlO to Ll2.
