STRANDrsG o. tht. JABos.— The Madras Times thinks " a careful review of all the circumstances of tbe case can lead but to one conclusion, tbat the stranding of the Jason where shenow lies was the result of grievous mismanagement. And considering tbe heavy stake of life and property at issue, the interest, of societv demands that there should be no evasion Of tbe duty of pronouncing this as tbe verdict of public opinion because it is an unpleasant duty. The question tbat at once comes uppermost when a ship, under no stress of weather, is brought up, all sail set, on the bare beach, within sight of a lighthouse, is— how did she get there ? That was the problem that Captain Hurst and the officers of tbe Jason were called upon to solve at the Commission of Inquiry. What uncontrollable circumstances compelled you to beach your ship nt Trivatoor instead of bringing her to an anchor in the Madras roads? The nnswer to this question is before tbe public. All the light that can be thrown on the matter by those concerned bas been thrown, and we only represent tbe opinion of all who have without bias read the evidence when we say, that, the explanation is wholly unsatisfactory.'— Twies of India, \ February 12. J BuWrso of tke Cadiz (fl.— We learn from j tbe Daily Press (Hongkong) of the 14th January, j tbat " as' the P. ar.d O. stearter Cadiz was leaving the harbor for Shanghai vrith the mails and a J cargo valued at half a million of pounds sterling, she'was discovered to be on fire in the fore hold, j . c be -run on shore, was scuttled, and the fire estin- | guirhed.
