TOWN BOARD.
I The usual weekly meeting of the Town Beard was held on Wednesday. Present : Messrs M'Arthur, Garthwaite, Beaven, and M'Tvor in the chair. Thp minutes of last meeting were read and continued. Tenders for constructing culverts were considered, and that of Charles Beige accepted, at the rate of £7 los per culvert. The tender of John M'Kenzio, for filling in portions of Gala, Kelvin, Deveror.. and Esk streets, was accepted at £'S 15s per chain. There were ten applicants. A long discussion took place on the tenders for Tav-strcet. It ended in the subject being left for consideration at an adjourned meeting, which the contractors were to be requested to attend. ( )n the motion of Mr Beaven. it was agreed to request the attendance of Mr Harvey at the adjourned meeting, to consider the Town Board Ordinance. A letter from Mr 'E. B. Garvon, regarding asphalte pavements, was also left over till the adjourned meeting. It was agreed that those having property in T ay-street, who are willing that the Board should form and gravel the footpaths, be requested to inform the clerk ; and those not willing that the Board should do so, be served with a notice to have the same done within one month from, the date of service. Owners of unoccupied property in Taystreet, it was agreed, should have the same fenced according to the Ordinance, Agreed that Duncan M'Arthur be offered £2 Ids per week, on condition that he rings the public bell at the hours authorised, in addition to his attendance on the Board. Agreed, to notify in the newspapers that all parties having tents erected in the town remove the same by the end of this month. Mr M'Arthur moved a series of bj-e---laws, ■which -were adopted, and it was agreed to submit them to the Superintendent for his approval. Mr Garthwaite moved, and Mr M'Arthur seconded: "Tha': application be made to the Government for -CSOOO, as a loan, to enable the Board to carry on the proposed works."
