THE DUNSTAN.
(From the Daily Tivies.) The latest report from the Warden at the Dunstan, dated January Ist, is a9 follows : — | " A slight increase i9 perceptible on the preceeding weeks' estimate: Miners in Dunstan proper, including Conroy's Gully, Meredith's, Earnaelough and other outlying gullies, 2,000 Business Licenses, &c, 1,500 Total 3,600 "In Meredith's Gully the prospectors arc- still doing well, the other remote workings at the Carrick are but rarely heard of now. Prospecting claims have been granted to Hugh Adam, George Sharpies, and John Bruce, for discovery of payable at the Nevis ; prospects obtained averaging from 3 grains to l£ dwts to the dish, wash dirt from Gto 18 inches in depth. The prospects were obtained from a creek claim, of which clas3 the future workings will consist. The prospector does not speak very sanguinely as to its future, and I have not noticed that the diseovery has attracted any notice. "Application to divert and work the bed of the Nevis has been made during the week, which, however, though properly belonging to the Nokomai district, was entertained at this office. The applicants were probably some of the- workers in I'otter's Gully, who having possessed tolerably rich clams, have been able to resist the attractions of the Lake district. "The river has fallen during the week very rapid ly, and in consequence there have been many disputes in the Warden's Court relative to registered claims. The frongtage system when Gazetted will save much needless and vexatious litigation."
