MELBOURNE MARKETS.
(From the Argus, December 24.) The Mills. — Millers report a fair steady demand on unaltered prices,. and give the following quotations: — Fine flour, £12 10s to £13 per ton ; wheat, 6^; to as 3d per bushel; and bran, Is Btl to Is Od per bushel. Hay Market. — The market has been more moderately supplied, but quotations continue as follow : — Jest hay, £8 to £8 10s per ton ; inferior mid second, £6 to £7 10s do; straw, £5 10s to £0 IDs per ton. Live Stock. — Mesr.rs Power, Rutherford, and Co. furnish the following report . — " Fat Catlle. — Number in 972 head. All to trade. The supply of good cattle this week was quite within our requirements, and the prices obtained, especially on Mond' <?, were i illy up to our last quotations. On Tuesday, hoy.-ever, there was a very limited attendance of buyers, and the figures obtained were some 10s or 15s a-hcad under Monday's prices. The cattle submitted on the hitter day were not equal to those sold at the opening of the market. We sold 175 head Messrs Morgan and Macintosh's (medium), with some rough amongst them, at £3 Ms all round. Test bullocks, £t> to £0 ((he latter very fine') ; second do, £4 to £5 ; inferior, £3 to £4; bert cows, £5 to £6 10s ; second do, £3 to £5. Fut Calves. — Number in, IGo head, which was a very full supply. Prices, 15s to 50s. Fat Sheep. — Number in, 7,105 head. All to trade. T'.'s market continues to be brisk, and the demand for p: ' quality very active, as the number an-swerir-r to this description now coming forward is very limited. Prime heavy wethers are now selling ut nearly as good prices as have been made during the season, and promise to realize satisfactory rates for the next tew months, the scarcity of feed and water on the roads being a serious drawj back to stock coming from the far stations. We have sold 700 quarter-bred Southdnwns, Thompson and Chrisp's, at 14s, thus proving the value of this cross; and 500 Cox's, at 0s Cd to 10s; best wethers, 13s to 14s: second do, 9s to 10s. A few ewes in. Fat Laiubs. — Number in, 2. '202 head : generally of a very inferior description : in fact, many were only in store condition ; inferior made ss. whilst some very choice sold as high as ISs."
