DUNEDIN MARKETS.
The markets are thus reported on for the week ended 12th lust: —■ Fat Cattle. —A large entry consisting of 224 head. About one-third were prime, the rest cows and steers of very medio in finality. Best pens were in fairly brisk demand, and brought rather over last week’s rates ; others were mostly taken by graziers at slightly lower prices. Best ballooks sold at L 7 5s to Ll(> 17s 6d ; others L 5 10s to L 7 2s 6d ; best cows, L 6 2s 6d to L 8 17s 6d , others (aged), L 3 Iss to Lo 17 6d. Fat Sheep—The market was supplied with. 1476 crossbreds, of which 400 where in wool, and 300 merino whetfaers, mostly shorn. The attendance of both butchers and graziers was small, and in consequence bidding was quiet, with a farther fall in values of from Is to Is 6d a head, and although vendors were prepared to sell at the reduced values some had to be sent home unsold. Crossbred wethers (in wool) brought 11s to 14s 9d for extra; crossbred ewes (in wool), 7s 91 to 11s do ; shorn wethers. 8s 6d to 14s for one pen ; shorn ewes, 7s 9d to 10s 6d for extra; merino wethers (in wool) 7s 6d to 8s 6d ; do (shorn) 2s to 4s. Grain. —Wheat : Late cablegrams from Home are of a slightly more reassuring character, recording a firmer tone prevailing, though values are without material alteration. The local market is almost at a standstill, and no indications of very much improvement fur her on. Inferior and good fowls’ wheat continues to have good attention, and prices firm. Quotations: For prime milling velvet, 2s 9d to 2s lOd; good to best ditto and best Tuscan, 2s 8d to 2s 9d; good to best red wheat, 2s 7d to 2s 8d ; medium, 2s 6d to 2s 7d ; inferior to good whole fowls’ wheat, 2s 3d to 2s Gd; broken and musty, Is 9d to 2s 2d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms). Oats: The slightly better feeling in the market reported last week continues. There is very fair demand for milling oats, and feed sorts are well competed for, but buyers are not just yet prepared to purchase at an advance on last week’s quotations, though quite free to operate at these. This market may be characterised as very firm, and, considering the limited quantity now on hands for disposal, is more than likely to remain firm. Meantime the tendency is certainly in favor of sellers. Quotations : For full bright milling, Is 4.Vd to Is 5d ; best bright short feed, Is 4pd to Is 4.jd ; medium to good, Is BJd to Is 4d ; inferior or musty, Is to Is 2 1 d (ex store, sacks extra, net.) r Potatoes.—Consignments of these have not been quite so extensive during the past week; prices in consequence are now slightly firmer; best Derwents fetching 30s to 32s 6d ; medium, 25s to 27s Cd per ton (ex store, sacks weighed in, net,) Dairy Produce—Market very quiet. Prices however, remain without much change, best dairy •made salt butter fetching Gd to 7d; medium, 4d to 5d ; factory-made, lOd .to Is per lb. Factory-made cheese, medium size, 41 dto 4ld ; loaf shape, 4|d to 5d ; dairymade, 2d to 3-kl per lb.
