INVERCARGILL MARKETS

The National Mortgage and Agency Company report holding their fortnightly sale at Wallacetown yards on Monday. Bidding all through was very quiet, and in consequence a good deal of stock could not be sold. Fat Cattle —72 head yarded, being an oversupply, and as owners held very hard to reserve about one-half of the entry was passed, although the lots sold commanded good prices, best prime bullocks bringing L 9 12s 6d to LlO ss; good do, LS to L9os ; ordinary and light, L 6 10s to L 7 10s ; best cows to L 7 15s; ordinary, L 5 to L 6. Fat Sheep—63d yarded, being also more than requirements. Several lots were not sold. Best shorn wethers brought 9s to 9s 9d ; ewes 8s 9d to 9s Id. Store Sheep—s6s entered, consisting of hoggets in the wool and shorn wethers. In sympathy with fat, market prices were low, good hoggets in wool only bringing 10s ; shorn do, 7s to 7s 6d. Store Cattle —151 yarded, but as very few buyers were present hardly any business was done, and that at prices racher easier than usual. To suit the convenience of the butchers the next sale will be held on Weduesday, 19th inst., and will be practically a sale of fab stock for Christmas, although, of course, store stock may be entered.
