DUNEDIN MARKETS.
The markets are thus reported on for the week ended 7th inst: — Pat Cattle. —120 head, forward, and nearly all of these were of good quality and handyweights. The demand was equal to that of last week, and no alteration in values can be quoted. Best bullocks brought L 9 2s 6d to LlO 17s 6d; medium weights, L 7 2s 6d to L 9 ; best cows, L 7 to L 8 2s 6d; others, L 5 to to L 6 10s. Pat Sheep. —The crossbreds penned were chiefly of good to best quality wethers and useful ewes. Of course the merino wethers
nearly all were much above average quality, with a few pens very prime. Best crossbred wethers brought 16s 6d to 17s 6d (one pen choice at 18s), others 13s 6d to 14s 6d, and shorn wethers, 11s Id; best crossbred ewes (in wool), IBs 9d to 14s 9d; others, 10s to 13s, and shorn ewes up to 10s 3d ; merino wethers (best), 10s to 12s 6d ; others, 7s 6d 9s 9d. Fat Lambs.—l 47 were penned, and sold at —for best, 10s 6d to 13s 3d ; others, 8s 6d to 10s 3d. Figs.—lo 7 penned, and of this number about two-thirds were suckers and slips. Suckers brought 6s to 12s 6d ; slips, 14s to 16s 6d ; stores, 17s to 21s; porkers, 22s to 26s 6d ; baconers, 29s to 38s. Sheepskins.—Country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, brought Is 5d to 2s 3d ; do do merino, Is 4d to Is 9d ; medium to good crossbreds, 2s 4d to 4s; extra heavy, 4s 6d to 6s; good to best merino, Is lOd to> 3s ; extra heavy, 3s 3d to 4s ; dry pelts, 3d to Is 2d; butchers’ best green crossbreds, 5s 3d to 5s 8d ; extra woolled, 5s 9d to 6s; medium to good, 4s 6d to 5s 4d ; best green merinos, 2s 9d to 3s lOd. Eabbitskins. Prices ruled : For best winter does, 12f d to 14d ; best winter bucks and does, 112 dto 12f d ; best winter bucks, to 12|d ; off-season skins, 8d to 9£d; inferior to medium, 5d to 7id; suckers, &c;, 2d to 4£d ; best coloured skins, 10£d to is ; medium, 7|d to lUd. Grain.—Wheat: Quotations : For prime milling velvet, 2s lOd to 2s lid ; good to best do and best Tuscan, 2s 9d to 2s lOd; good to best red wheat, 2s 8d to 2s 9d ; medium and good whole fowls’ wheat, 2s 6d to 2s 7d ; broken and inferior to medium, 2s 2d to 2s 6d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms.) Oats : The speculative element in shippers opera- i tions is conspicuous by its absence, and millers demand for milling sorts having lately fallen “off to almost nothing the quantity disposed of is not very heavy. Quotations : Prime milling, bright and stout, Is 4Jd to Is sd; best bright short f-ed, Is 3£d to Is 4d; medium to good, Is 2Jd to Is 3£d ; inferior and musty, Is to Is 2d (ex store, sacks extra, net.) Grass Seeds.—Best-dressed •perennial ryegrass seed is worth 3s 6d to Bs 9d ; choice, 4s to 4s 6d ; medium, 2s 9d to 3s 3d (ex store, sacks extra, net). Cocksfoot. Moderate , demand, best dressed moving off in small lots at 6£d to 6£d; medium, SJd to 6d per lb. Potatoes.—Consignments come steadily to hand, keeping the market amply supplied. Quotations : For best Derwents, 30s to 35s ; medium, 25s to 30s per ton (ex store, sacks weighed in, net). Dairy Produce.—Market quiet. Quotations: For best dairy-made salt butter, 7d to 8d ; medium, 4d to 5d ; factory-made, per lb. Factory-made cheese,* medium size, nominally 4£d to 4Jd ; loaf-shape, 4|d to sd; dairy-made, 3d to 3Jd per lb.
