DUNEDIN MARKETS.
The markets are thus reported on for the week ended 10th October;— Fat cattle.— A moderate entry was submitted at Burnside totalling 149 head, the greater portion being very good to prime beef, while the balance were partially finished only. This supply being no more than sufficient for requirements, competition was fairly active, resulting in a drop suffered last week being recovered on this occasion. Best bullocks brought LIO to Lll 10s; medium to good, L 7 17s fid to L 9 17s fid ; light weights, L 5 17s fid to L 7 12s fid ; best cows, L 7 12s fid to L 8 17s fid ; one or two extra prime, L 9 to L 9 7s fid ; medium, L 5 15s to L 7 2s fid ; light and aged, L 3 10s to L 5 12s fid. Fat sheep.—The supply was not quite so heavy, only 2140 being penned, of which 350 were merino wethers, medium to good. The crossbreds included several pens of very heavy sheep and well finished. The greater portion, however, were only medium quality and hoggets. A very good demand wa's experienced at the commencement of the sales, and prices ruling quite on a par with those of last week, more especially for best
mutton; but xiown towards the close competition became less animated, and prices secured then were lower by 9d to Is per head compared with those obtaining earlier. Best crossbred wethers at the start brought 14s 9d to 16s 9d; a fow pens extra heavy, 17s 6d to 19s 3d; medium to good, 10s 9d to 13s 9d; best do ewes, 12s 6d to 14s 6d; one small pen extra heavy, 16s 9d ; light weights, 10s 3d to lls 9d ; merino wethers, 4s 6d to 11s. Lambs.—B2 were penned, small but nice quality and sold at lls to 13s 3d each. Pigs.—The entry to-day was less, only 43 being penned, nearly all suckers and slips, all of which sold pretty well, the former fetching 10s to 13s, the latter 15s to 18s, about half a dozen porkers 23s to 345, and a few light bacon ers 32s 6d to 345; two or three extra heavy pigs, 65s to 73s each. Quotations for prime milling velvet 2s lOd to 2s lid ; medium to good and best Tuscan 2e 9d to 2s lOd; good to best red wheat, 2s 8d to 2s 9d ; medium, 2s 6d to 2s 7d; inferior to medium, 2s 3d to 2s 6d ; broken, Is 9d -to to 2s 2d : (ex store, sacks weighed, in terms). Oats : A moderately fair business is passing in these, and late values fairly well maintained, but considering the low prices ruling at outside markets and which at the moment do not show any apparent sign of improvement, shippers will have no inducement to speculate, and only purchase for present requirements, consequently the quantity put through is limited. Stocks, however, are weekly getting less bulky, and not likely to exceed requirements. Quotations : For prime milling Is 5d to Is s£d; short stout bright feed, Is 4d to Is 4£d ; medium, Is 3d to Is 4d ; inferior to medium. Is Id to Is 2£d, musty, 9dto Id (ex store sacks extra, net. Quotations : For best dressed, 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; choice, 4s Id to 4s 6d ; medium to good, 2s 9d to 3s 3d (ex store, sacks extra, net). Cocksfoot is firm but without any change in prices, which are ; For best dressed, 6d to 6£d; medium, 5d (f. o. b.). Potatoes.—There is no improvementto record. The market is still ovcr-supplied, and only a hand-to-mouth business is being done. Quotations ; For best Derwents, 30s to 35s ; medium, 25s to 30s per ton (ex store, sacks weighed in, net). Quotations; For best, £2 10s to £2 12s Gd ; extra prime, £2 15s ; medium to good, £2 to to £2 7s 6d; inferior, £1 5s to £1 17s 6d per ton (ex trucks, sacks extra, net). Dairy Produce —Best dairy-made salt butter 7d to 8d ; medium, 4d to 5d ; factory-made, Is to Is Id per lb. Factory-made cheese (dull), medium size, nominally 4-Jdto 4f-d ; loaf shape, 4|d to 5d ; dairy-made, 2d to 3£d per lb
