SUPREME COURT SITTINGS.
The September sittings of the Supreme Court at Invercargill will be opened at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. For the first time for some years, there is no civil business to be dealt with. There are a good many criminal cases, but in several instances the accused will plead guilty. The most interesting and dramatic of the series will undoubtedly be that in which J. J. Meikle charges William Lambert with perjury in connection with an accusation of sheep - stealing preferred against Meikle some seven or eight years ago, and for which he served a sentence. The case comes before the court in the form of a private prosecution, Mr Solomon appearing for Meikle, and Mr Macalister for the defendant. There are about 40 witnesses, Following is the list of the cases to be heard ; J. Keenan, sheep stealing^ J. Buchanan, child-desertion. Jas. Lumsden, larceny. * William Rae, forgery. Annie Greer, forgery. William Lambert, perjury. Sarah Gregory, murder. Bridget Cody, attempted suicide.
