WINTON.

£From our own Correspondent.]

The dairy factory was the scene of great festivity on Monday evening last, when, at the invitation of the young ladies of the Winton district, fully fifty couples attended the social and dance held in the building. Dancing and singing was indulged in to the music of Messrs Coop and W. IsTicol (violins), and Mr J. Wilson (piano) ; while the pipes, in the hands of Mr J. Florence, also enlived the proceedings. If more credit could be given to one more than another of the young ladies, perhaps (the Misses A. Cowie and A, Walker deserve special mention, they being the prime movers in the matter. The gathering broke up with best wishes for the success of the factory, and three cheers for Messrs Stoho Bros. We will be well provided with variety entertainments during the the next fortnight in the English church social on Thursday next, and the Oddfellows’ concert and hall on the 28th inst. The Cadzow Concert Company drew a very large attendance on Sunday evening to a sacred concert in the Exchange hall. At the close of his Saturday night’s entertainment, Mr Cadzow, in thanking the Winton brass band for their services, remarked that their playing was superior to that of any other country band in Southland that he had heard.
