TOWN v. WESTERN DISTRICT
[By Poster.]
“ Who would have thought it ? ” was the question often asked after the above match, which was played at Riverton on Wednesday. The Town only “ got home ” by three points to nil. The game was very interesting—nothing but scrums right through. The Western District team comprised 13 Riverton men, and D. Hurst (Winton), and S. Hirst (Orepuki). There was very little individual play to notice, but Jenkins and Donaldson, of the back division (Town team) deserve special mention ; while Anthony, Gr. Ramsay and Murphy, of the forwards, were about the best. For the Country, Hurst was far and away the best —in fact he was the best back on the ground, Clark’s kicking at centre three-quarter was very good, and he and Robertson were good at stopping rushes. The forwards all worked with a will, but Molloy (2), A, Bullman and Mitchell were slightly above the averrge. Pattison was conspicuous during the first spell. Mr R. Mcßobie officiated as referee to the satisfaction of all, and Messrs McKay and D. Mcßobie acted as line umpires. Close on 200 people travelled down by the special train, and a large number witnessed the match.
