SOUTHLAND EDUCATION HOARD. Fbiuay, August 3. The monthly meeting of the Board ■was held at 11 a.m. Mr H. E. Murray was appointed third assistant at the Middle school and Miss M. A. Millard head teacher of the Macetown school. Miss Mimro’s resignation as pupil teacher in the Riversdale school was accepted, and the committee’s application for a duly qualified mistress referred to the inspector. It was resolved to offer the appointment of pupil teacher in the Cardrona school to Miss F. Healey, of Arrowtown. Owing to the reduced average attendance at the Park and Otautau schools it was decided to give the assistant teacher at the former and the pupil teacher at Otautau three months notice, and to notify the committees of the Edendale, South, and Otatara schools that the excess staff in each school will be dispensed with unless the attendance increases. Applications were granted for works at Chatton, Wild Bush, North Forest Hill, Waikawa Valley, Wendonside, Otautau, Mabel, Woodlands, Mataura, and Waipounamu. The inspector was instructed to report on an application for the establishment of full-time schools in the Oteramika district in lieu of the present arrangement, and plans were ordered to be piepared for a new school at Arthur’s Point.
