PIRATES v. I.F.C

[By . Postke.]

This match resulted in the defeat of the Blues by 22 points to-m2. The score included two nicely potted goals by Rogers. The game was evenly contested, during the whole of the first, and a portion of the second spell, the I.F.C. holding their own. After Rogers potting the first goal the Blues seemed to loose heart and another goal was potted and tries obtained, by N. Mcßobie (2), Farquharson, anil Tapper, in quick succession, on ly one of the tries obtained being improved upon.

Preshaw rushed the ball on one occasion when it was placed, and prevented what would have been an almost certain goal.

For the winners- Rogers’ kicking was of great service to his side, while the passing of Tapper, Wills, and Manson was very good. Wattie Mcßobie was very quick at half, while N. Mcßobie and McKay—two fast wing men—followed up well. One of the tries obtained by the former was very cheap. In the forward division all worked with a will, but Anthony, Farquharson, Lock, Smith,; and Ennis are deserving of special mention. For the vanquished Grenfel was the pick of the backs, supported by Henderson and Wade.

Preshaw, Ashcroft, Rochfort, McPherson, Todd, and Lee we re most noticeable among the forwards, doing the biggest share of the hard work. Mr R. Galbraith, as referee, gave every satisfaction. I was sorry to see one of the Blues so far forget himself as to strike one of the Pirates during the game.
