WINTON.
[From our own Correspondent.]
The much-spoken of dairy factory will soon be under way, the* building material being now on the ground. Mr Robert Jamieson is established in his new brick premises, which are an ornament to our township. The verandah and balcony extend across the footpath, and being well finished with ornamental iron work, and painted nicely, stand out conspicuously to a good distance. Mr Jamieson has furnished a number of rooms for the use of visitors, as it is his intention to keep a private restaurant in connection with his bakery and pastry cook business. The brass band occupied the balcony last Saturday evening, and discoursed some good music under the conductors hip of Mr Wyllie. The drain plough industry appears to be an important one in Southland.
Messrs Wilson and McKay are just completing ah order for one to be sent to Marton in the North Island, while not long ago they sent One to Arthurton. The local demand for these implements keeps np, and this firm have now three fires going, principally making drain ploughs.
