WYNDHAM.

[Prom bur own Correspondent.] We have got over the licensing day, but nor over the excitement yet. Many of our inhabitants are still deploring the fact that such an old-es-tablished and well-conducted hotel as Mr Milne’s should have had its license taken a wav.

Amidst the prevailing depression it is satisfactory to learn that the director's of our daily factory have seen their way to make a further payment of one farthing per gallon over the season’s milk, in addition to the threepence already paid. There is evidence of an epidemic being in our midst. I would take this opportunity of giving warning to all. Cupid has been making havoc amongst our bachelors and maidens, and there is reason to believe his full work has not yet been accomplished. The other week over 200 people met to celebrate one of those events, and just imagine what further mischief may have been concocted amongst this assemblage. Fortunately your correspondent has reached a stage in life when diseases incidental to youth are not easily contracted, aid therefore feels pretty safe. A few days ago I observed a note in one of your contemporaries from its Gore correspondent lamenting the fact that Wyndham had been placed over Gore in that it had been - selected as the central polling booth at the late election, and also the seat of the Licensing Committee. Well, we have no intention of playing second fiddle to Gore, or of allowing the tail to wag the dog.
