SACRED CANTATA.
A sacred cantata, entitled “ A Day With Our Lord,” was rendered by the choir of the Primitive Methodist Church on Wednesday evening l in the Don street schoolroom. The attendance was very large, all the available sitting room being occupied. A copy of the words of the cantata was supplied and enabled all present to follow with great interest the programme as it proceeded. The choir, although, consisting of less than twenty voices, acquitted itself very creditably, the members showing a familiarity with their parts which could only have been gained by a deal of practice. Mr J. P. Service wielded the conductor’s baton admirably, and Mr E. Service presided at the piano and had no light task to perform in playing the incidental music and accompaniments. Among the twenty-five numbers given were choruses, quartettes, solos, a chant, and a trio. The soloists were Mesdames A. Ayling and Dyer, and Messrs Grose, A. Proggatt, P. and J. P. and E. Service, and Godfrey. Miss A. Humphries and Mesdames Service and S. Ayling sang the trio with such effect that the audience demanded an encore. The solos were all well received, especially that sung by Mr J. P. Service, while most of the concerted numbers, more especially in the second part, brought forth ■warm marks of appreciation.
