OREPUKI
The great heat we have been having for some time past has at last given place to some real old-time Southland weather. We have had wind, sleet, hail, and rain in abundance, which was ushered in on Sunday night by a thunderstorm of unusual severity. The change was very welcome, as work was at a standstill
through the scarcity of water. Now, however, all hands are at work again. Very little damage was done to the crops, although they were very heavy. I think we are ahead of most places in the South in harvesting, one field of very heavy oats being already in stook. That mining property does not seem to deteriorate in value was proved lately by the sale of the half of the Fall’s Creek water right at the satisfactory price of £SOO. I am sorry to say we have had a lot of sickness lately, some of the cases serious, and one (a child) fatal. The phenomenal weather we have had is credited with it.
