DUNEDIN MARKETS.

The markets are thus reported on tor the week ended Jan. 3rd :

Fat Cattle —The entry for to-day’s market comprised 82 head only, chiefly good to prime bullocks, the balance consisting of medium-weight cows and heifers, with a few heavy weights. For really good beef there is but little change on late rates, but we consider that the tone of the market to-day was perhaps slightly more in buyers’ favour, and this in the face of a very small supply. Best bullocks brought £9 10s to Lll 12s Gd; medium to good, L 8 to L 9 ; light, £6 10s to L 7 10s ; well-finished cows and heifers, £7 15s to L 9 ; others, L 5 5s to L 7. Fat Sheep. —The number penned was 607 only; of these fully half were ewes, chiefly heavy weights, and as the trade had been buying sparingly for the last fortnight, the small supply to-day was very keenly competed tor, prices for the best lines showing a very considerable advance on those of last week, though this was, of course, due to the exceptionally small number of sheep on offer. In crossbred wethers there was none of extra good quality to hand, 15s 3d being about the highest price obtained for such, but heavy weight ewes brought 15s to 17s; others, 9s 6d to 13s ; merino wethers, 6s 3d.

Grain.—Wheat: Millers, being still fully stocked, buy sparingly, and only whem tempted by low prices. Fowl wheat continues to be in fair demand. Quotations r Prime, 2s 8d to 2s 9d; inferior to good and fowl wheat, 2s 6d to 2s 7-}d. Oats: Market; is bare, but, demand being purely local, there is sufficient offering to prevent prices rising meantime. Prime, la lid to 2s; Is 9d to Is 10£d.
