HEDDON BUSH.

Every year the Heddon Bush sports are becoming more popular. It is now about four years since they were started, and should they go ahead at the same rate in the future as in the past, this locality will yet be one of the principal sporting places in Southland. The gathering on Friday (29th ult) must have numbered close on 1000. In consequence of the growingdimensions of the assemblage,' the picnic was this year wisely abandoned, at the same time this was no barrier to a number of minor ones being held in nooks and corners here and there. The Winton Brass Band was in attendance and discoursed some choice selections. Mr A. Mclnerney had a booth and supplied the inner man with stimulants, etc. ; he had also the dining room, the eatables from which must have satisfi ed the cravings of even the most fastidious. Mrs Brown had a fruit stall, and did so well that her tent was dismantled long ere dispersing time. Mr Clark deserves special mention and thanks for kindly placing his paddocks at the disposal of the Committee. There was a horse race and a foot race time about The Stewards had arranged everything in apple-pie order. They were : President —Mr Massing; Judge, Mr P. By an : Starter, Mr A.
