The weight-guessing competition, tried locally for the first time at the recent show of the Southland A. and P. Society, caused 91 visitors to the grounds to risk a shilling in the hope of gaining the sweepstake awarded to those who came nearest the actual weight of the bullock and sheep selected for the purpose. Dickie (Mataura) tied with 9751b —71b over. Fortyone guessers tried their luck with a pen of fat sheep. The guesses ranged from 4701 bto 7301 b. The actual weight was 627)-lb, and A. Drysdale (Kennington) with James Humphries (Invercargill) tied with 6301 b, or 211 b out. T. Fraser (of Waianiwa) came next wdth 6331 b.

Aquatic Carnival and swimming races at Bluff on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 3 o’ciock. ERNIE CAYILL, champion Swimmer of Australia, will give a grand display of fancy, ornamental, and speed swimming, prior to his departure for England to compete far the Championship of the World.
