CAPTAIN McNAB.
Captain McNab’s volunteering career began in Invercargill a good many years ago, when he and Captain Hawkins were members of the old Grammar School cadets. In 1886, while living in Dunedin, Mr McNab joined B. Battery, and in July of that year accepted a commission in the North Dunedin Eilies. In February, 1887, he was appointed captain of the corps, which position he held for three years, when he returned to Invercargill. He has always taken a warm interest in rifle shooting, and in 1888 he captained the Otag© Ladies’ Challenge Shield team, and the New Zealand Challenge team at Blenheim the following year. He won the champion belt of his company in 1889, and during the same year represented Otago in the N.Z.E.A. Council. He commanded the guard of honour at the opening of the Exhibition in 1889. He was several years ago elected captain of G. Battery, Invercargill, and still holds that position. From the very first he has taken a warm interest in rifle shooting, and is a prominent member of the Southland Rifle Club, and vice-president of the Mataura Rifle Club.
