The Southern Cross. PUBLISHED WEEKLY. Invercargill, Saturday, Oct. 7. TO OUR READERS.
With the issue of 30th September the Southern Cross completed its first six months of life. In beginning the second half year, it is fitting that a few words should be addressed to our readers. And “ right here,” as Brother Jonathan would phrase it, acknowledgment must be made of the reception accorded the journalistic “ new chum.” It was gratifyingly cordial, wishes for success being alike hearty and general. To our numerous subscribers in town and country, and to our clients all round, our best thanks are due. We have not been able to realise in every particular our ideal of what a weekly journal should be, although assured from all quarters that the Cross is a very good “ pen-’orth,” but the generous measure of support we have so far received will be duly recognised. The best way in which that can be done is t© make the Cross still more worthy of support. To that end we have under consideration the introduction of several new features that will add to its usefulness and interest.
