GORE.

A great clearing sale, which was attended largely by buyers from all parts of the district, -was held at the Otakarama station last week, when the whole of the unsold portion was offered, there being 5,227 acres of freehold land cut up into suitable-sized farms; also 4,000 sheep, 160 head cattle, hox-ses, etc. The portion comprising the station and yards was sold privately to Mr Yyner. The prices offered not reaching the reserve, except for a

few sections, the land was withdrawn from sale, and is now' offered privately. The cattle brought satisfactory prices—yearlings, 48s; store cows, in calf, £4 6s; milch cows, £5 Us. The whole of the sheep were disposed of at—crossbred hoggets, 6s 9d; 4-tooth ewes, in lamb to Romiu-y rams, 9s 7d. I have to record the death at fimaru of our late respected R.M. and Warden, Mr Revell, age 64. During his term of office in this district he earned the good wishes and respect of all - Another of our old residents lias passed away at Gisborne in the person of Mrs V. 8. Day, wife of a well-known solicitor who practised in Gore some years ago. The deceased lady was a daughter of the late Mr White, one of Invercargill’s pioneer business men. With the advent of summer the cricket season has come round, and the members of our local club have hold their annual meeting and determined to set their house in order. Mr W. <-ibson, an enthusiastic player, has been elected secretary. The non-success of the club in past years has been the number of players who omitted, year after year, to pay their subscriptions, but were always to the fore when a match was played, to the exclusion of those who were the back-bone of the club. If success is to be attained these must be got rid of. Two candidates for the Mayoralty are already in the field—viz., Messrs I. S. Simson and James Beattie.
