BLUFF NOTES.

We are to have quite a season o£ amusements next week. The local Dramatic Club make their re-appearance in the drill Hall on Tuesday night, and a feature of the entertainment will be the production ©f a play written by a lady member of the Club. The programme promises a good evening's amusement. The popular bellringers perform later in the week, and the Railway Department have made arrangements whereby those desiring to see the Myra Kemble Co. at Invercargill may do so. The Oddfellows’ annual ball takes place on the 6th prox., and the Committee are doing their level best to ensure the enjoyment of their patrons. The Corporation are renewing the footpaths with a good covering of white gravel. This makes an excellent path mid one distinct advantage it possesses over any other material on a path that has open drains on either side, is that owing to its colour a pedestrian can make sure of his steps .on a dark night, and this is very much appreciated by those who, in times past, have walked into an involuntary bath

To-day witnesses the close of the oyster season, and the bivalves have now a respite for four months to consider their position, and oystermen will have a rest till the Ist of February. The dredge Alpha has begun operations at the eastern end of the old wharf.

The Vivid, with bone dust from Melbourne, and the Onyx with guano from Long Island, are busy discharging cargoes. The Annie Hill sailed on Tuesday for the Thames via Oamaru with Oysters on account of the J. Gr. Ward Association. The s.s. Mntatua will, after coaling, sail for London direct, taking from this port frozen mutton and general •cargo. The ship Crusader and the barque Othello may be looked for in a few days.
