WAIMATUKU.
The weather of late has been beautiful, and farmers have been making the most of it. The Quadrille Assembly closed on the 13th inst. after a successful season. The ball given on that occasion was largely attended. I shall not attempt to describe the dresses of the ladies, being too diffident of my powers in that way, but will-content myself by saying that one lady in pink and white looked remarkably well. The chairman, in thanking the company for their attendance during the season, mentioned that there would be about £lO to hand over towards the cost of our public hall. The “ Wandering Minstrels ” from Invercargill gave an entertainment on the 21st. They gave their services free for the benefit of the school, and acquitted themselves admirably. I could not help thinking, while listening to their songs, music, jokes, etc., that we ought to be proud of our y rang New Zealanders. After the ■ concert, Mr Stobo, chairman of the school committee, in proposing a vote of thanks to cur visitors, fully acknowledged their services. Th i hall was then cleared for dancing, which was kept up till 4 qjclock next morning, all seedling to enjoy themselves right well. Sept. 22.
