AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT.
The .T. G. Ward Farmers’ Association of New Zealand, Ltd., report for the week ending 14th Sept, as follow# : We held our regular fortnightly sale in the Gore yards on Tuesday, 12th inst. The entry was a very, limited one, as the heavy rain which fell a day or two previous prevented many lots of sheep from coming forward, and the wet state of the ground and scarcity of feed made stock hard to sell, unless at prices that vendors did not care to submit to. Our entries for this sale were 485 hoggets and 1< 0 merino ewes in lamb. We disposed of all the hoggets at prices ranging from 9s for small sorts, up to Jls for best. These prices, however, we consider quite Is under what similar sheep will realise in another fortnight, when the grass gets a start. We also held our regular fortnightly sale at Thornbury yesterday. The entry comprised lines of lirst-class hoggets with odd lines of three parts fat sheep and a few pens of ewes in lamb. We sold hoggets at 8s for small sorts, to 13s for best; ewes in lamb at 13s 6d ; a line of young cattle at at £2 10s ; steers at £4 12s 6d to £5 5s ; heifers (in calf) at £4 to £5 ss. Sheepskins, Rabbitskins, Hides, Tallow, &c. —At our regular weekly sale on Monday we offered a large catalogue. Bidding was brisk, every lot offered being sold at prices about on a par with those ruling last week. Sheepskins (dry) up to 5-Jd per lb ; medium quality from 2£d to 4fd per lb ; green skins at 3s 9d to4s9d. Rabbitskins from 7d to 13d Hides from 4s 6d, for damaged lots, up to Ifis 9d for best. A very large number of hides have arrived from time to time in Very bad condition, and, in consequence, are almost valueless. We would strongly advise our clients to salt well all hides immediately they are taken off. Tallow sold up to 18s; rough fat from 12s to 14s 6d. Horsehair at Is per lb. Horse Market. —On Saturday we had again a full entry, including a draft from Temuka. Taken as a whole they were an inferior lot, as compared with those sold by us the previous Saturday on account of Messrs Lyon and Ross, still any young sound sorts reached £2 ’ to £3O, and medium draughts £l2 to £lB. Hacks are again inquired for, and best young upstanding sorts are bringing full values.
We will sell on Saturday first, on account Mr Garrick, who has already brought some splendid animals to Southland, 10 prime draught and light horses ; and on Saturday, 23rd inst., on account of Mr -Ross, from Melbourne, 15 superior draught mares and geldings (4 to 6 years old).
