CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS.
The Addington saleyards were In good order underfoot on Wednesday, 16th, and consequently stock appeared to advantage. Business was not very brisk, and a want of animation was noticed. Fat cattle were well represented, but only a small portion of the entry could be called prime quality. There was an unusually large number of cows and second rate steers. A mob of store cattle,
including soma good young stock, sold at low prices. About 2000 store sheep were offered, consisting of breeding ewes, hoggets, and a few forward crossbred wethers. The demand was poor, which is probably due to the scarcity of feed and turnips. Over 4000 sheep were yarded in the fat pens, but barring a few lines, of prime crossbreds, quality was below the average, consisting of second-class and half-fat crossbreds and merino wethers. About thirty of this season’s lambs met with a ready sale at remunerative prices, namely from 0s 6d to 14s Gd each. A few pigs, including a number of light baooners, met with good demand, and brought very satisfactory prices. The whole of the ontry was disposed of, and the demand was in excess of the supply. The following are the totals of the clay’s yarding: 684-5 sheep, 46,4 head of cattle, and 228 pigs. Generally speaking, business was slack.
